Fayette County delegates settlement authority to County Manager for claims up to $5,000

Fayette County's Board of Commissioners voted unanimously on Sept. 11 to delegate settlement authority to the County Manager for individual claims not exceeding $5,000.
County Administrator Steve Rapson told the Board such claims commonly involve mailbox or sign damage, vehicle damage from mowing debris, water leaks or cleanup costs related to meter installations. Rapson said delegating authority would allow timely resolution without separate Board action for each minor claim, and he committed to notifying the Board via email when he approved settlements.
Commissioner Charles D. Rousseau asked whether a report on settlements would be provided; Rapson responded that he would notify the Board by email about settlement approvals. Vice Chairman Edward Gibbons moved to approve the delegation; Commissioner Charles W. Oddo seconded and the motion passed 5-0.
