Mayor: Helena operating on under $700 per resident; council hears grants and projects

Rosener said the Library received a $3,000 grant from Representative Bedsole and the Police Department secured a grant of over $41,000 to purchase a TruNarc drug-testing system that will allow officers to test samples locally rather than sending them to the state lab. "The Police Department received a grant for over $41,000 for a TruNarc System, which will be incredibly helpful for our officers to test samples here instead of having to send off samples and wait on the state," Rosener said.
He also noted completion of a turn-lane project at Highway 17 and County Road 58 and said Shelby County DOT is considering additional repaving projects in the area. Parks will host the annual Easter Egg hunt on April 4 from 9 a.m. to noon at Joe Tucker Park. The city plans to move into the new City Hall on April 2; City Hall will close at noon on April 1 through April 3 and reopen April 6 as staff transition operations.
The mayor framed these items as examples of municipal stewardship under tight budgetary conditions and thanked department heads for their work. No new appropriations or budget votes were recorded on the councils agenda for the evening.
