Students from McKinnon Elementary presented the school spotlight at the board meeting and outlined events and activities from the school year.
Student council officers described first-grade and third-grade field trips to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and farm day, kindergarten activities including a parent-created pumpkin patch, a symphony visit for fourth grade, a Stardust Color Run to celebrate perseverance, and award ceremonies that included family breakfasts. A student presenter said the council raised “more than 12,000” this year to support expanded learning experiences.
Trustees and district staff praised the students’ courage and leadership. Board members thanked parents and school staff, noted the challenges created by a nearby roundabout construction and recognized district efforts to establish a new bus route to ensure safe transportation during construction.
The board invited student leaders to meet district staff and encouraged families to use the school’s programs and upcoming events. Trustees took a photograph with students before continuing the regular meeting.
