Pine County backs manufacturers grant application that officials say will add about 15 jobs

The Pine County Board unanimously approved a resolution of support so a Pine City manufacturer can apply for a Minnesota Job Creation Fund grant to reimburse part of an estimated $2.2million to $2.7million expansion project.
Leslie Sauter, the countys economic development coordinator, told commissioners the firm has been in the county since 1963, employs more than 80 people across two shifts and plans an approximately 12,000-square-foot addition that would create about 15 new jobs with average wages around $25 an hour. Sauter said the company could be eligible for roughly $175,000 to $275,000 in state reimbursement, payable after jobs are created and costs documented.
"They employ over 80 employees... theyre looking at about a 12,000 square foot facility addition which will create about 15 new jobs," Sauter said in presenting the request. Commissioners praised the coordination and local outreach that connected the company with state funding opportunities.
Commissioner Nelson moved the resolution of support and Commissioner Ludwig seconded; the board approved it by voice vote. Staff said the state typically reimburses grant recipients after jobs are shown to be created and receipts submitted, and noted a subsequent Minnesota Investment Fund application may follow.
