Carl Nyquist presented the Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG), explaining the federal grant funds wages and fringe for emergency management duties required each year. He described the grant’s history, noting reductions in funding over recent years and uncertainty at the federal level.
Nyquist asked the board to adopt the grant agreement and authorize the chair’s signature so he can continue required emergency management activities. Commissioners moved, seconded and approved the grant adoption; the chair and Nyquist will sign the agreement.
Nyquist said the state association of emergency managers and AMC have discussed taking the grant over at the state level, but at the time of the meeting the funding remained a FEMA program that helps cover salary and fringe for county emergency management work. No numerical roll call was recorded on the voice vote.
