Council liaison reports on downtown facade program and Cowren School approval

Council member McKenzie, serving as the council substitute liaison, reported the Economic Development Authority will revisit past applicants for the facade‑improvement program to allow them to refine proposals. He pointed to several downtown buildings that recently installed new windows and encouraged reapplications.
Ken Roberts (staff) reported that the City Council approved the Cowren School addition project and the recent zoning ordinance amendments on encroachments, setbacks and the new subdivision ordinance. Roberts said the council provided little public comment on those items and that staff will present the capital improvement program (CIP) for commission review at the November meeting.
McKenzie also noted ongoing downtown activity and encouraged commissioners to be aware of facade and storefront improvements as they consider downtown design manual updates.
The commission did not take formal action on these reports at the meeting.
