County reports water-treatment conversion complete; Bell's Ferry bridge closure keeps bridge waterline out of service

Utilities staff reported the county completed a chemical conversion at the water treatment plant at the end of 2025 and have generators on site awaiting testing. The Bell’s Ferry Road bridge remains closed until GDOT funds repairs; waterlines were relocated and put into service.
Steve Hulsey, Utilities Administrator for Water, told the committee the water treatment plant chemical conversion was completed at the end of 2025 and that generators for the project are on hand while staff await testing and final connection.
Hulsey also reported that the Bell’s Ferry Road bridge remains closed until the Georgia Department of Transportation funds bridge repairs. He said waterlines that had been on the bridge were moved and are now in service while the bridge-connected line was taken out of service; Assistant Utilities Administrator Tim Shuler said staff hope GDOT will allow opening one lane of traffic on the bridge when repairs permit.
Bruce Ivey, Public Utilities & Transportation Division Director, said county crews recently sampled water and replaced a service line for a customer on Boulder Drive who is at a high point on the system. These localized repairs were presented as completed actions rather than items requiring committee approval.
No formal votes were taken on water items at the Feb. 18 meeting; staff described operational progress and ongoing coordination with GDOT on bridge repairs.
