Deuel County commissioners approve road projects, jail contract, repeater and roof repair

Highway Superintendent Jamie Broksieck won approval to advertise for bids on box culvert Project 20-008-220 (bid dates April 23 and May 6; bids to be opened May 13). Commissioners also directed advertising for six-month fuel bids with openings set for May 19. The board approved a right-of-way occupancy permit for Northwestern Energy to bore under a county right-of-way and authorized crushing 5,000 tons of gravel at the Arnie Krause pit for $31,250; scrap iron was declared surplus.
On public safety matters Sheriff Cory Borg secured approval of a Grant County jail housing contract at $105 per day per inmate. Borg also outlined persistent coverage problems with the Toronto-area radio repeater; the board approved purchase of a new 100-watt repeater at $34,545 to improve coverage in parts of the county where responders have reported poor signal.
