Summary
Staff reported that the Cowheran School addition/remodel application has been filed and appears to meet code and that a developer has applied for a $225,000 grant to fund planning/site work to support low- and moderate-income for-sale units; both the school project and ordinances will be on the next meeting’s public hearing agenda.
During reports at the Aug. 7 meeting, planning staff told commissioners that three items will be scheduled for public hearings at the next Planning Commission meeting: the two zoning text amendments discussed in detail, the subdivision ordinance changes and a Cowheran School addition/remodel application. The school project—an addition on the southwest side that includes playground and parking adjustments and a bus pull-in—was described as high level but appearing to meet code.
Staff also said the city approved a developer to pursue a $225,000 grant intended to cover planning, soil testing, landscaping and stormwater work so that the developer can include low- to moderate-income for-sale units in the project. "The grant submittal was for $225,000 to go towards those costs, which then he can lower the cost of the project in theory," Ken Roberts said. Commissioners acknowledged the update and noted that neighbors will have the opportunity to comment at the scheduled public hearings.
No formal action was taken on funding; staff said the grant application had been submitted and the city had given permission for the developer to pursue it. The public hearing(s) will give neighbors a chance to review project materials and comment before any final approvals.
