Summary
Fairfax County workforce staff described one-on-one coaching, credential funding, paid work-based learning and job-alerts, and highlighted a May 5 Fairfax job event and a May 13 Prince William countywide job fair where on-site interviews will occur.
Fairfax County workforce development staff outlined targeted resources for jobseekers affected by federal workforce reductions, including four employment resource centers in the region, individualized career coaching, resume conversion for state and local applications, funding for credentialing and paid work-based learning placements.
"We can meet one on one to provide career coaching assistance, walking through the various local government application requirements and the process to help make sure your qualifications stand out," the Fairfax County workforce representative (Kim) said, describing services that help convert federal resumes to state/local formats and connect candidates with hiring events.
The county plans a Fairfax-focused hiring event on May 5 with about 20 registered agencies and recommended that jobseekers register via the QR code shown during the session. Panelists also highlighted a Prince William countywide job fair scheduled for May 13 with on-site interviews and resume collection.
Fairfax staff pointed attendees to a dedicated web page with recorded sessions, on-demand webinars, resume templates and job leads, and provided an email for follow-up (dfsworkforcedevelopment@fairfaxcounty.gov). The county also encouraged jobseekers to sign up for specialized job alerts to receive timely notices about openings that match specific skills.
The session included a reminder that Virginia Tech’s School of Public and International Affairs is offering a four-course certificate in local government management with a 25% scholarship for participants; the certificate rolls into the MPA program for those who proceed.
Panelists urged jobseekers to view the full compensation package when comparing federal and local offers and recommended leveraging the county’s training programs and leadership academies as paths to faster advancement.
