Celeste Myers gave the committee a progress report on regional coordination and recovery work related to the North Rim and the Greater Kaibab.
She said the Resource Board will meet with Coconino, San Juan and Mojave counties and federal delegation staff to press for coordinated adaptive forest management that includes grazing, timber projects, watershed treatments, infrastructure repairs, and recreation management. Myers described delays in federal payments to local contractors — noting contractors had been waiting for an $800,000 federal check — and urged faster federal support for ranching communities doing recovery work.
Myers also described a newly formed work group addressing allotment and grazing concerns. The group is pushing for compensation when allotments are converted or lost (fair-market-value payment for lost AUMs), coverage of drought insurance premiums to date, at least 30 days' notice before displacement, and continued ability for ranchers to maintain infrastructure on affected lands. She said the work group will meet monthly initially and then less frequently as issues stabilize.
Myers added that she had been appointed to a state-level Constitutional Defense Council seat and will chair a community task force (including Garfield and Kane counties) convened by Senator Curtis to advocate on local recovery and land-use priorities.
She asked committee members to help broaden outreach and to use the Resource Board as ambassadors in their communities.
