Prescott Valley plans covered pool at Mountain Valley Park; voters may decide on larger rec center

Prescott Valley will replace the aging Mountain Valley Splash pool with a covered, year-round aquatic facility and give residents a chance to vote on a broader sales-tax-funded recreation center.
"Our current pool is...at the end of its useful life," Town Manager Gilbert Davidson said, noting the facility is about 30 years old and patching efforts can only go so far. He said a citizen committee recommended focusing first on replacing the pool and letting the community weigh in on whether to raise sales tax to support a larger recreation center that could include gym and weight-room amenities.
Davidson said the town will design a covered indoor aquatic facility that supports year-round programming—swim lessons, water aerobics and youth programs—and that building could begin as early as next year. He described this summer as "the last splash" for the current outdoor pool and said limited functionality will remain while the town completes planning.
No final cost estimate or ballot timing was given; Davidson said the sales-tax option would be put to voters if the community wants a larger facility. He emphasized the town intends to provide at minimum a covered pool usable year-round.
