Saint Peter creates sustainability task force to map community assets and pursue small projects

The Saint Peter City Council on Aug. 25 approved formation of a community sustainability task force and heard a brief presentation from Corey Johnson, the city’s new sustainability and communications coordinator.
Johnson described the task force as a community‑driven, action‑oriented group of roughly nine members representing health care, education, local government and other sectors. Initial priorities include creating an inventory of existing sustainability work and assets, raising public awareness, identifying small measurable projects that can be implemented collaboratively, and exploring integration with the city’s comprehensive plan.
Johnson said initial member responses have been positive and that the first meeting will be scheduled in September; staff will report back to the council as projects develop. Council members signaled support and noted the potential to coordinate with Gustavus, regional employers and other partners to accelerate achievable projects.
The resolution establishing the task force was approved by roll call vote.
