The Saint Peter City Council approved the Aug. 25 consent agenda, which included temporary gambling licenses, employee appointments, a schedule of disbursements and items related to discontinuing local police dispatch services.
City administrator Todd (speaker S5) explained that listed dispatch employees would be separated from employment effective Oct. 1 as part of the discontinuation. He said staff is providing a severance package, continuing to coordinate with the Nicollet County Sheriff's Office (which has provided dispatching for many years), and will communicate details to the community. Todd emphasized that service levels expected by residents should continue but possibly from different locations and that staff will provide ongoing information.
During visitor comments, John Rubisco (speaker S6), a Flame Bar and Grill co‑owner, asked whether businesses could open earlier on two upcoming Sunday Vikings‑game dates. Todd clarified the city ordinance restricts alcohol sales until 10 a.m. on Sundays rather than a general prohibition on opening, and said the city attorney and staff would examine options for expedited special‑event approvals if needed.
Separately, the council approved a resolution to allow the Saint Peter High School homecoming parade on Sept. 22 after staff confirmed insurance and the route.
