Summary
The commission scheduled spray-crew training for May 7 in Whitehall, discussed vehicle specifications (prefer newer-than-2020, under 100,000 miles and one-ton capacity) and said budgeted funds should be expended before the end of the fiscal year.
The Broadwater County Weed Commission scheduled spray crew training and discussed planned vehicle purchases as the fiscal year draws to a close.
Jessica said she and Grace plan to bring the crew on May 7 for training, safety briefings and coordination, with spraying to begin the following week. She confirmed the training location as Whitehall at the VFW and noted additional opportunities are planned leading up to that date.
Commissioners discussed vehicle needs: an 8-foot bed, one-ton capacity for tender use, with preferences for vehicles newer than 2020 and with less than 100,000 miles to improve longevity. Jessica said Bill had suggested the newer-than-2020 and under-100,000-miles criteria: "what Bill wanted me to do was do newer than 2020 and less than a 100,000," she said. Commissioners noted diesel vehicles under 100,000 miles are costly and that many diesel units continue to operate well past 100,000 miles.
Jessica said the purchases are budgeted and the commission hopes to expend funds before June so the vehicles can be obtained before the new fiscal year begins in July.
The commission also discussed swapping tanks between vehicles and looking for low-mile vehicles suitable for low-speed, tender-style work. No formal motion to purchase specific vehicles was recorded; staff will continue to research options and proceed before the end of the fiscal year if suitable units are found.
The commission's next meeting is scheduled for May 19.
