At its Oct. 7 public meeting, the Garrett County Board of Commissioners approved bid awards recommended by the county Purchasing Division, including an $822,555 award to Carl Belt, Inc. for the Garrett County Airport Rehabilitation Terminal Apron Project and a $167,000 award to Ferri Contracting Co., Inc. for Puzzley Run Water Treatment Plant improvements.
The Purchasing Division reported that only one bid was received for the airport terminal apron project (Carl Belt, Inc., $822,555.00). The project is funded by the Federal and Maryland Aviation Administrations with an approximately 6% local match, listed in the minutes as about $49,353.30. For Puzzley Run the low bid was Ferri Contracting ($167,000.00); Beitzel Corporation submitted a higher bid of $198,160.00.
On winter abrasives and road salt (Bid #24-0919W) the county received eleven responses; Purchasing recommended accepting bids from a set of vendors (George’s Creek Stone & Gravel, Maryland Minerals, Keystone Lime Company variants, Cargill, Morton Salt, Arcosa Aggregates, Allegany Aggregates, Fairfax Concrete Products, Belmont Aggregates). The Roads Division will determine which quarry or vendor to use based on garage location, hauling cost and availability. The minutes state that the board approved all Purchasing Division recommendations as presented; motions were moved by Commissioner Ryan S. Savage, seconded by Commissioner S. Larry Tichnell and recorded as unanimous by Chairman Paul C. Edwards.
Specifics of vendor-by-product awards and purchase orders are on file with the Purchasing Department, according to the minutes.
