Garrett County commissioners appoint two residents and approve multiple resolutions, ordinances

The Garrett County Board of Commissioners on Oct. 7 appointed two residents to county advisory bodies, approved multiple resolutions and two code ordinances, and issued proclamations for October, the board said in its public meeting.
Chairman Paul C. Edwards presided over the meeting. Commissioner Ryan S. Savage moved to appoint Bevian Hensley to the Garrett County Commission for Women for a three‑year term and to appoint Torey Moats to the Garrett County Department of Social Services Advisory Board to fill the unexpired term of Alisha Martin through June 30, 2025; Commissioner S. Larry Tichnell seconded and the motion was recorded as unanimous.
The board approved a package of resolutions and ordinances that included Resolution 2024‑9 (Deep Creek Watershed Zoning Ordinance Amendment — Farm Winery); Resolution 2024‑10 (Sale of Property — Keyser’s Ridge Business Park); Resolution 2024‑11 (Covenants — Keyser’s Ridge Business Park); Resolution 2024‑12 (Garrett County Procurement — Bids and Contracts Ordinance); Resolution 2024‑13 (Garrett County Multi‑Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan 2024); Resolution 2024‑14 (Ethics Ordinance 2024); and ordinances adopting updated Building and Mechanical Codes. The minutes record motions and seconds for the approvals and indicate the items were approved unanimously.
Chairman Edwards also disclosed the board had met in executive session earlier under General Provisions Article 3‑305(b) of the Maryland Open Meetings Law to discuss personnel matters; the executive session ended at 3:15 p.m., according to the minutes. The board issued proclamations designating October as “I Can Swim Month” and Oct. 21–25 as Garrett County Economic Development Week.
The meeting concluded with the board naming Oct. 22, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. at the Garrett County Courthouse as the next public meeting.
