Floresville council authorizes GovDeals online auction platform for surplus property

The Floresville City Council voted on April 9 to authorize the city manager to use GovDeals, an online auction platform, to sell surplus, obsolete and salvage city property.
City staff explained at the meeting that GovDeals allows departments to post items and upload photos at no cost to the city; the fee is paid by successful bidders. Items must still be declared surplus and approved by the council before listing, and staff said the platform provides comprehensive reporting on sales and proceeds.
Council member Forrest moved to approve the use of GovDeals, with a second; the motion passed. Finance/city secretary staff said typical items include monitors, phones, desk chairs and other nonworking equipment that the city currently stores and seeks to dispose of.
What’s next: staff will compile a surplus list, bring it to council for formal surplus declarations, and then post approved items to GovDeals for auction.
