Summary
Trustees approved a memorandum of understanding with the City of Del Rio and Val Verde County to pursue federal and state advocacy services (authorizing up to $38,000 for vendor engagement), renewed the Southwest Food Service Excellence LLC contract for one final renewal year and authorized associated MOUs and purchase orders.
The San Felipe Del Rio CISD board unanimously approved a package of business items that included a memorandum of understanding with the City of Del Rio and Val Verde County to pursue federal and state advocacy services and a final renewal of the district's food service management contract.
Administration asked the board to approve an MOU allowing the district to work jointly with the city and county to engage advocacy consultants. Gilbert Sanchez told the board the district will participate in the vendor selection and develop legislative priorities with district staff; administrators requested authority to spend up to $38,000 depending on vendor choice to cover consulting costs.
"We're only asking for approval of the MOU and approval to engage and spend no more than $38,000 on whichever consulting group is selected," Sanchez said. Administration said the selection process will include the SFDRISD team and that the relevant department will receive reports on work completed.
Trustees also approved the fourth and final one‑year renewal of the food service management contract with Southwest Food Service Excellence LLC for the 2026–27 school year; administration said the district will go to bid for the 2027–28 contract.
The motions carried unanimously. Board members asked for reporting on consultant deliverables once vendors are selected and for transparent billing and updates during the advocacy engagement.
What’s next: administration will continue vendor selection in coordination with the city and county, finalize any purchase orders, and present periodic reports on advocacy work and contract performance.
