East Grand Forks council approves playground project, equipment trade-ins and cannabis registration fees

The East Grand Forks City Council on April 1 unanimously approved a package of routine city measures, including a Griggs Park playground project, equipment trade-ins that reduced purchase costs for public works and police, and a new resolution setting city registration fees for cannabis businesses.
The council adopted Resolution No. 25-04-28 to approve the Griggs Park Playground Project with a total project cost of $82,624.64. The resolution authorizes purchase of playground equipment from Landscape Structures for $48,975.70 and allows the use of Altru Partnership funds for up to $4,617.64 toward project costs. The measure was moved and seconded and carried on a roll-call vote.
Council also declared seized, forfeited and abandoned firearms surplus in order to trade them in to reduce the purchase cost for six new rifles and nine optic systems from Sig Sauer totaling $13,429.86; that motion passed on roll-call. Separately, the council declared a John Deere 544J loader surplus and authorized trading it in on the purchase of a John Deere 624P, reducing the purchase price to $264,176 from RDO Equipment; that motion also passed on roll-call.
The council adopted Resolution No. 25-04-29 to set registration fees for cannabis businesses operating within city limits. The resolution was presented, moved, seconded and approved without discussion.
Council additionally authorized the city administrator, clerk and treasurer to issue payment of recommended bills and payroll. Each motion taken during the meeting was approved by roll-call vote and recorded as passed.
The meeting included only brief discussion on these items; there were no public comments and no amendments recorded. The council received routine departmental and legislative updates afterward and adjourned.
The council meeting opened and was presided over by the chair; procedural matters including roll call, the pledge of allegiance and approval of prior meeting minutes preceded the votes.
