The Mono County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved an employment agreement on Feb. 17 that aligns the district attorney’s chief investigator position with lieutenant‑level parity based on a comparative review of peer counties.
District Attorney Dave Anderson described the analysis staff conducted — a survey of comparable positions in neighboring counties showed that most jurisdictions set the chief investigator at lieutenant level or higher. Anderson said the proposed contract was modeled on the county lieutenant contract with minor, non‑material differences tied to office structure.
The board recorded the fiscal impact in the staff report: an estimated $80,396 in salary and benefits for the remainder of the fiscal year ($58,880 salary and $21,516 benefits) and a full‑year cost of $259,750 (salary $176,638; benefits $83,112). Anderson said the item is included in the District Attorney’s 2025–26 adopted budget.
Supervisor Dugan moved to approve the agreement and Supervisor Salcedo seconded. Roll call vote was 5–0 in favor.
