Lee Vining community strongly backs housing options; county advances down‑payment assistance planning

County staff reported progress on multiple housing initiatives and a recent community meeting in Lee Vining where residents and the RPAC provided feedback on potential housing at the Lee Vining Community Center site.
CAO Woberly summarized the yield study and said about 30 community members attended the February 11 meeting; participants favored single‑ or double‑section manufactured units and proposed one unit be used as in‑home child care. "We had a great turnout and good feedback," Woberly said.
Staff are compiling survey responses (English and Spanish) and working with consultants (SMR Development) to refine site plans. The county is also developing a middle‑income down‑payment assistance program and an owner‑led bridge program to address high home costs; the consultant will return to the ad hoc committee for review on March 6.
Housing staff also reported minor operational items: two Bridgeport Apartments units are available and staff will complete a lottery if employee interest exceeds availability; staff accepted an offer for a new housing management analyst, expected to start in mid‑April; and the county is pursuing PLHA and HOME program funds to support projects.
The board asked staff to provide milestone dates for the Lee Vining project and to return with a pre‑application and revised site plans within the next two months. CAO Woberly said the county anticipates an initial application and development review within that timeframe.
