Scott (S4) presented the Sequoia Park Safe Routes to School Area 3 design: a proposal to accept a roadway and sidewalk easement, relocate a short roadway segment (the property owner offered removal of one house to improve sight distance), infill sidewalk gaps, add crosswalks and install three sets of speed humps. The engineer’s estimate for the work is approximately $735,000.
Council discussed the scope and funding approach. Staff said the project team wants to go to bid immediately and hopes to construct over the summer so work is complete before school starts in the fall. Council approved a single bundled motion: accept the roadway easement, approve project plans, authorize advertising for bids, authorize the town manager to award the contract, adopt a resolution of intent to abandon unused right‑of‑way, and approve CEQA findings. The motion passed unanimously.
Council members asked about potential speed increases from the realignment and staff explained three sets of speed humps would be included to mitigate that risk and improve pedestrian safety.
