New Berlin Landmarks Commission approves $38.22 reimbursement for 250th display, schedules June meeting

The New Berlin Landmarks Commission on March 19 approved a $38.22 reimbursement to Commissioner Warczak for supplies used to assemble a display board for the city's USA 250th anniversary events, confirmed that cemetery signs are finished and will be installed this spring, and set its next meeting for June 18, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall Conference Room A/B.

Chairperson Orzel called the meeting to order at 6:01 p.m. and a quorum was recorded. Commissioners approved the January 15, 2026 minutes in a motion by Commissioner Warczak, seconded by Commissioner Erdmann. The record notes the motion passed with Chairperson Orzel, Commissioner Warczak, Commissioner Erdmann and Commissioner Tyskiewicz recorded as voting in favor and Vice-Chairperson Ament and Commissioner Marquardt recorded as voting "present" because they were excused from the January meeting.

Commissioner Warczak reported there were no new expenditures and that $1,960.00 remains in the commission treasury. Warczak described plans for the commission's participation in a Red, White & Scoops ice-cream social at the ARC Center on April 26, 2026, from 1 to 3 p.m.; members of the Landmarks Commission and the New Berlin Historical Society will serve ice cream. Because retractable banners were deemed too expensive, Warczak and other commissioners assembled a display board of landmark photos and addresses; Warczak requested and received reimbursement of $38.22 for supplies after a motion by Commissioner Tyskiewicz and a second by Commissioner Marquardt.

Chairperson Orzel said the commission's 2025 Certified Local Government partners report had been submitted but not yet acknowledged; she will follow up with the state. She also reported that some corrections to landmark property documentation have been made and that she will check with the Waukesha County Register of Deeds about outstanding updates. Commissioner Tyskiewicz summarized a prior review of documents from former Chairperson DeMoss regarding a site at Moorland Road and Greenfield Avenue; a Department of Natural Resources and National Register Archaeological Division review found no Native American materials at that location, and commissioners agreed the older documents need not be retained.

Commissioner Erdmann is working on planned website revisions and will circulate a slide-format draft; commissioners noted a discrepancy in photos for Prospect Hill Schools #2 and #3 that needs correction. Chairperson Orzel's work on a Prospect Hill Settlement and Historic District Park database was reviewed during the meeting.

The meeting adjourned at 8:10 p.m. on a motion by Commissioner Tyskiewicz, seconded by Vice-Chairperson Ament. The commission indicated its next likely meeting will be Thursday, June 18, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in City Hall Conference Room A/B.
