Safety Commission declines stop/yield signs at Coachlight Drive and Heritage Lane

The New Berlin Safety Commission voted unanimously on Nov. 12 to take no action on a resident's request to add stop or yield signs at the intersection of Coachlight Drive and Heritage Lane. City staff presented a review of the previous 2020 request and associated traffic data and crash history.
City Engineer Tammy Simonson summarized the earlier analysis: between 2000 and 2020 there were three crashes at the intersection (one injury and two non-injury crashes). Since the 2020 evaluation, staff recorded one additional non-injury crash. Simonson said the 2020 traffic counts and Two-Way Stop/Yield Guidelines did not warrant adding stop or yield control, and noted there had been no geographic changes (e.g., sight-line obstructions) that would alter that conclusion.
Commissioner Mitchell Lataille moved to take no action based on historic traffic counts and recent crash history; Battalion Chief Justin Schulpius seconded the motion, which passed 9-0. The commission did not direct staff to conduct a new traffic count or to pursue sign installation at this time.
