Council backs DLCCC 25th‑anniversary capital campaign to address facility maintenance

The Detroit Lakes City Council accepted the DLCCC's financial statements and independent audit for the fiscal year ended Aug. 31, 2024 and approved the DLCCC's proposal to launch a $2.5 million 25th‑anniversary capital campaign.
Peter (speaker 15), executive director of the DLCCC, said the facility had about 10 million visits over 25 years and highlighted capital needs including replacement of the pool deck and pool filtration mechanicals, field house floor replacement, elevator controls and fire panel upgrades, and roofing and HVAC work. He said the capital campaign goal is $2.5 million, with the city contributing roughly $500,000 through funds available under the management agreement and the DLCCC seeking to raise the remaining $2 million from donors.
The finance committee reviewed the audit and campaign plan and recommended council approval; the council accepted the audit and approved the DLCCC moving forward with the capital campaign. There was no request for new ongoing city funding beyond the use of the city's already‑earmarked $500,000 under the management agreement; the DLCCC will continue fundraising and report back on campaign progress as required by the management agreement.
