At the Detroit Lakes City Council meeting, Lynn Schulberg (speaker 17), a Parkview Street resident and 9‑1‑1 dispatcher/trainer, delivered an extended public comment urging the council to take stronger, sustained action on ongoing illegal activity at the city park.
Schulberg said prior overtime patrols by officers were time‑limited and unsustainable and that the problems — weapons calls, domestic incidents, fights, exhibition driving, targeted harassment and garbage dumping — have continued. "If you're waiting for something to happen, time is running out," she said, and described incidents she and neighbors experienced, including being followed and targeted. She criticized the lack of cameras dedicated to public safety in the park and said many neighbors have stopped calling police out of fear of retaliation.
The mayor thanked Schulberg for the presentation and referred the issue to the Public Safety Committee for further review and follow up, noting the council had discussed the matter previously and would pass it to the committee for action. No formal council action or funding decision was taken at the meeting; council members said they would take the concern to the committee for consideration of next steps.
