The Common Council voted unanimously to recommend raising the city's ambulance base rates, with changes set to take effect June 1, 2026. Clerk (Speaker 1) presented the proposal, which calls for a $300 increase to all base rates for nonresident basic life support (BLS), advanced life support (ALS) and critical care services, and a $250 increase to those same base rates for residents.
The increases also include further rate adjustments scheduled for Jan. 1, 2027, and Jan. 1, 2028, according to the presentation. During the discussion members asked about the non-transport fee, which appears in the proposal at $600; Clerk (Speaker 1) explained that non-transport charges generally relate to situations involving Medicare and Medicaid patients or cases where treatment is provided on scene but transport does not occur.
Chair (Speaker 2) called the voice vote, saying, “All those in favor, say aye.” Members responded “Aye,” and the motion was recorded as approved unanimously. The recommendation will be forwarded to the Common Council for final action as part of the council’s regular approval process.
