Summary
Ed Gray of Brighton Township asked the Beaver County Board to install additional lights along a roughly 1-mile paved Route 51 walking path, offered to donate solar lights, and county public-works Director Dan Cole said he will inspect the site and report back.
Ed Gray of Brighton Township told the Beaver County Board at its April 22 work session that the county should consider installing additional lighting along the roughly 1-mile paved walking path on Route 51, noting heavy evening use by residents.
"My name is Ed Gray, and I'm from Brighton Township," Gray began, and later asked, "I was wondering if you guys would consider putting in some lights around that paved walking path." He said about 100 people walk the path during evening hours and that current lighting is insufficient. Gray offered to donate solar-powered lights to the county if the board would install them.
Dan Cole, identified by the Chair as the county's director of public works, said he will inspect the path and the existing poles. "I'll have to go and look and see. I just made myself a note to look at this," Cole said. County staff also noted the posts in question may belong to the electric utility (Duquesne Light) and that the county will evaluate whether solar fixtures or connections to existing power are appropriate.
The board asked Gray to leave contact information with staff so they can follow up. The Chair directed public-works staff to review the site and report back at the next scheduled meeting; no formal commitment to fund installation was recorded during the work session.
