The New Berlin Landmarks Commission voted Nov. 20 to replace interpretive signs at four historic cemeteries, approving a shortened rewrite for the New Berlin Center Cemetery sign and a design standard to add the Commission logo and a QR code to each replacement sign.
Chairperson Orzel introduced the proposed rewrite for the New Berlin Center Cemetery and Commissioner Erdmann moved to accept it; Commissioner Tyskiewicz seconded the motion, which the minutes record as passing unanimously. The Commission then voted to place the Landmarks logo at the lower left and a QR code at the lower right of each sign; that motion was made by Commissioner Erdmann and seconded by Commissioner Warczak and likewise passed unanimously.
Commission Treasurer Commissioner Warczak said the Commission’s expenditures to date total $676.79, leaving a balance of $1,323.21, and he will research flash-drive storage options to archive the Commission’s larger binders and added digital material. Chairperson Orzel said the logo and QR-code placement will help direct visitors to more detailed online information as the City Clerk’s Office and Waukesha County complete digitization of affidavits and other records.
The actions formalize an ongoing project to update interpretive signage and link on-site visitors to expanded online resources. The Commission’s minutes note that affidavits for all Landmarks are expected to be scanned by the end of January, after which brochure and sign text updates will proceed.
