Commissioners vote to ask state to study dangerous Capitol Avenue–Highway 30 intersection after recent fatalities

After discussion about possible remedies and the state's jurisdiction over the highway, Commissioner Jane (speaker initiating the motion) moved that the board send a letter to the state asking for a study and possible improvements at the intersection. The motion was seconded and passed; the clerk recorded the vote as carried with six yes votes.
Board members asked that the sheriff’s office and county staff help draft the wording and suggested the letter include a request for a traffic study and guidance on how to proceed with engineering or safety changes.
Next steps: board members tasked a small group (including the sheriff and Commissioner Jane) to draft the letter and coordinate with state officials about a traffic study and recommended remedies.
