Salary resolution advances with 3% increases for two years; forwarded to full board

The LaSalle County Salary and Labor Committee on April 22 approved a resolution recommending 3% salary increases for the county clerk and county treasurer for the 12/01/26 and 12/01/27 pay dates and agreed to forward the resolution to the full Board for formal approval in May.

A county staff member told the committee the current resolution for those offices is expiring Nov. 30 and that the committee must provide a new four‑year salary resolution to the full board at least 180 days before the first day of the new term. “We have to have the resolution approved by the full board 180 days ahead of the first day of the new term,” the staff member said, urging completion of the action prior to the May full‑board meeting.

Committee members discussed how to set the increases. Several members said they favor keeping all elected‑official salaries aligned. Options discussed included 3%, 3.25% and 3.5% increases; the committee carried forward the 3% option so staff could show the exact figures for the next two highlighted years. A staff presentation included the arithmetic for 3% increases and showed line items for 12/01/26 and 12/01/27.

Members also questioned how a $1,500 stipend for circuit clerks related to election duties is processed. One member asked whether the stipend is paid through payroll or as a vendor payment; staff said they would check with payroll to confirm and, if it runs through payroll, the stipend would remain attached to the salary resolution.

The committee recorded the motion to adopt the resolution, which received a first and second and passed on roll call. The chair called names and recorded ayes from the members; the resolution will be forwarded to the full LaSalle County Board in May to meet the statutory timing requirement.

The committee then moved to the next agenda item, an executive‑session discussion about compensation of specific employees and discretionary leaves.
