The Greenville City Council on March 9 adopted Resolution 2026-18 authorizing a contract with Pioneer Electric Cooperative to install yard lighting in Greenwood Estates, a move city officials said will lower installation costs by using existing utility poles.
Police Chief Justin Lovvorn told the council an earlier assessment called for five new lights, but a follow-up review found three existing poles could be used. Lovvorn said that reduced the per‑light installation cost by about $400 and will save the city a little more than $1,000 on the project. Councilmember Bryan Reynolds moved to adopt the resolution and Councilmember Brandon Smith Sr. seconded; Mayor Jae’Ques Brown announced the motion carried by a unanimous vote.
The resolution authorizes the city to enter a contract with Pioneer Electric Cooperative for the lighting work. Council members did not request additional changes at the meeting. The city’s next procedural step is implementation under the contract terms with Pioneer Electric.
