Greg Ringer, owner of Ringer Windows, told the commission the larger sign is needed so drivers can find the business. "It's a couple 100 feet, and that really was part of my reasoning," Ringer said, describing the building as set back and down from the roadway where passing traffic can miss the entrance. He added that trains and a changed park sign had reduced visibility for individual businesses: "As people are buzzing by at 60 miles an hour plus, a lot of times they're already past the entrance," Ringer said.
Commissioners asked staff about precedent and whether local businesses nearby have similar sign sizes; staff referenced previous cases such as a recent Panda Express variance and said they would provide the historical compliance details on request. One commissioner framed the decision around sight-distance and proportionality to the building, noting the proposed 36-inch letters were in scale with the 35-foot side of the structure.
After discussion, a commission member moved to approve the variance; another member seconded. The chair called for the vote and at least one commissioner verbally voted "aye." The chair declared the motion approved.
