Police report: Midway-Heber area saw unnotified ICE action; department coordinating for July 4

Heber City Police Lieutenant Blake Rigby briefed the Midway City Council April 21 on department coordination for the upcoming Fourth of July events, abandoned‑vehicle enforcement and a federal enforcement operation that drew local concern.
Rigby said the police department is "working on getting some permissions" and coordinating with other agencies to staff the town's July 4 activities and that the department will make sure the event is staffed and safe. He described ongoing enforcement of abandoned vehicles, noting officers will impound vehicles when necessary.
Rigby told the council that Immigration and Customs Enforcement conducted an operation in Heber and Midway earlier in the day without coordinating with the city or county. "They didn't let us know what was going on... They took some into custody," Rigby said, and said local police have asked ICE to notify local agencies and to slow down convoy speeds after complaints from residents about speeding through town during early morning operations.
Council members thanked the department for communication and for weekly reports from the chief. Rigby said the department will continue to stay in contact with federal partners when possible but sometimes receives limited advance notice.
The report was informational; no council action was taken beyond direction for staff to continue coordination with law enforcement partners and event planning.
