Midway adopts fireworks boundary map, allows authorized Memorial Hill displays

The Midway City Council adopted ordinance O‑2026‑11 on April 21, defining permitted discharge boundaries for fireworks during the July 4 holiday and including a limited exemption for authorized civic or community groups at Memorial Hill.

Staff presented a map that traces a boundary from the north, down Homestead Drive, over 200 North, along several roads and Snake Creek, and includes the Hamlet area. The fire marshal reviewed the map. Council discussed map contrast and public display locations for the printed maps and asked staff to use high‑contrast colors and to post multiple copies around town.

The ordinance also contains an explicit exemption: civic or community groups authorized by Midway City may hold a fireworks display on Memorial Hill on the Fourth of July. "The exemption for Memorial Hill was also included, meaning that civic or community groups with the authorization of Midway City could light fireworks off of Memorial Hill," a presenter said.

A council member moved to adopt the ordinance and the motion passed on an aye vote. Staff will print and post the maps and coordinate with the fire marshal and event organizers on permits and public notification.

The ordinance is intended to limit private fireworks discharges to defined areas and to concentrate permitted community displays at specified locations for safety during a dry year.
