Clute extends DRC debris-removal contract for one year

The Clute City Council voted March 26 to exercise the first of two one-year extensions of the city—s emergency debris-removal contract with DRC Emergency Services LLC, a move staff said is intended to maintain disaster-response readiness through the upcoming hurricane season.
Staff reported the contract began after a 2022 bid process and said DRC provided rapid on-site response during Hurricane "Barrel," with crews working that afternoon and donating roughly $20,000 of initial push work. Staff also said DRC recently provided a sonar survey of Shank's Lakes at no charge.
The extension would be retroactive to June (the original renewal date) and, if approved later this summer, the contract could be extended again to cover the 2026-27 period before the city reopens bidding. The council made and seconded the motion and adopted Resolution No. 16-2026 by unanimous vote.
Council discussion emphasized the importance of having a reliable vendor in place before hurricane season and staff said they will negotiate the following-year extension before the next expiration date.
