City says San Gabriel pedestrian bridge replacement to start soon; Austin Avenue bridges to get workshop in December

City staff said design work (over 90 percent for a dedicated pedestrian bridge) and funding are in place for pedestrian improvements; staff noted they are preparing options for the council to consider, including deck upgrades and separate pedestrian structures.
David said the low‑water crossing and some park infrastructure will be designed or upgraded for flood resilience and that the parks department plans to install hardier lights and move some facilities to improve visibility and reduce vandalism. He also said design and construction for Blue Hole Park improvements are staged (design in 2026; potential construction in 2027) and that the city will phase and budget projects to match funding cycles.
Officials did not announce final construction contracts for all projects at the meeting; staff said procurement, grant applications and design milestones will determine exact schedules.
