Council recognizes veterans memorial committee, asks for design renderings and grant strategy

The committee outlined fundraising ideas — a Memorial Day field of flags, a Lamb Day booth and other community fundraisers — and asked the city about handling donations via the municipal web portal.
"I would like to introduce the committee and get some input from you as to where we want to go with this memorial," Linda Christiansen said, describing two preferred locations: a hill in the cemetery or a site south of City Hall. Committee members noted potential grant sources, including U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs memorial grants (minimum typical grant about $50,000) and recommended seeking designs and cost estimates to maximize available funding.
Councilors asked for renderings before making a final site decision and flagged trade-offs: a Main Street site would improve visibility but could curtail future park or recreation development on the city-owned lot. A motion to formally recognize the Fountain Green Veterans Memorial Committee as the authorized agent to pursue the memorial was moved and approved by the council.
