Eufaula council orders weed abatement, tables one fixing-costs item while approving another

At its Jan. 20 meeting, the Eufaula City Council heard a public hearing on weed abatement and acted on two "fixing costs" resolutions.
During the public hearing for Resolution 2-2026 (weed abatement for property associated with Clarence Braswell c/o Sara Cosson), there were no public comments and the council approved the abatement under Ordinance 1997-13. Councilman Marvin Brown moved to approve; President Pro Tem Otis Hill seconded; President Register announced adoption by voice vote.
On Resolution 3-2026 (fixing costs for 236 West Davis Street), Ms. Vernice Jones said she is not the sole owner and that her siblings share responsibility for the costs, and she said she did not have an approximate date for payment. Councilman James Bailey moved to table Resolution 3-2026; Councilman Marvin Brown seconded; President Register announced the item was tabled.
The council then approved Resolution 4-2026 fixing costs for the Beauchamp/Livingston matter (property on Cotton Avenue). The minutes itemize the charges: one hour of bushhog and operator at $80.00 and a $200.00 administrative fee, for a total due of $280.00. The resolution was adopted by voice vote.
Next steps: staff will follow up with Ms. Jones regarding payment arrangements for the tabled item and proceed with invoicing or lien procedures for the approved fixing-costs matter as appropriate.
