The Addison Planning & Zoning Commission recommended approval of a special use permit on June 17 for Grama America to operate an educational institution in Suites 540 and 550 at 3939 Beltline Road.
Corey Beck, Assistant Director of Development Services, told commissioners the combined floor plans encompass about 6,500 square feet and that Grama America proposes vocational programs including licensed vocational nursing, allied health, IT support and cybersecurity, beauty and barbering, and business and entrepreneurship. Beck said the school would enroll up to 25 students in person, with additional online enrollment capacity, and operate from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week, with separate day and evening cohorts. "Staff is recommending approval," Beck said.
Commissioners discussed parking and building occupancy; Beck noted a one-space on-site parking deficiency relative to the complex's required parking and said staff did not have outstanding concerns that would preclude a recommendation. The applicant was not present to answer questions; Beck said staff would pass commissioner questions to the applicant for city council consideration if needed.
A commissioner moved to approve the special use permit; commissioners voted in favor by voice vote and the motion was recorded as carried.
The action on the special use permit will be forwarded to Town Council per the commission's normal process. The application was listed in the meeting materials as case number 1935SUP for 3939 Beltline Road, Suites 540 and 550, and staff said notices were mailed to ten property owners and no public responses were received at the time of the hearing.
