The Town Council approved an agreement authorizing up to $185,000 to DCO Realty Inc., a UDR subsidiary, to support production and operations for Vitruvian Park events including Vitruvian Lights, Vitruvian Nights Live and a Salsa Festival.
Abby Morales, director of special events and theater, explained the agreement outlines town responsibilities (parks, public works support) and UDR's investment. Jessica Czar of UDR said the largest portion of the town sponsorship (about $145,000) supports the installation, maintenance and removal of lights for Vitruvian Lights; the remainder funds special-event production, smaller concerts and the Salsa Festival.
Councilors asked for a line‑item breakdown of what the $185,000 is spent on and whether the partnership crowds out town programming. Jessica said UDR's commitment has grown modestly over time to cover higher service costs and that parking fees (charged on two Vitruvian Lights Saturdays at $15) and vendor opportunities produce some event revenue used to buy more lights and support the program year‑to‑year.
Council members encouraged exploring revenue opportunities to offset town costs (vendor fees, merch sales or resident discounts for parking) and requested an after‑event accounting by line item to improve transparency. The council voted to approve the agreement.
