During the public-comment period of the Fort Pierce Utilities Authority meeting on April 21, resident Jermerek Merrell urged city and board leaders to address illegal dumping and persistent littering.
"I just ask that there is some awareness... taxing, or pushing for that there's a, authoritative figure, making sure that trash isn't consistently being on the ground," Merrell told the board, saying the practice causes environmental harm and community impact. He gave his name and neighborhood and closed after roughly two minutes.
No board member promised immediate policy action during the meeting; the chair thanked him and the meeting proceeded to the scheduled presentation and regular business.
