Proponents—including representatives from SUDA, the African American Sports and Entertainment Group and community advocates—spoke in favor of the acquisition, saying the 5,000‑square‑foot space would allow the county to expand self‑sufficiency services and avoid foreclosure risk for the project. Supervisor Miley described a public‑interest business need for the county to control the space for social services and training.
Supervisor Miley moved the direction and Supervisor Halbert seconded. The board discussed due diligence and the need to confirm appraised value and title clearance; GSA Director Kimberly Gassway said due diligence would likely take a couple of months. The roll call on the motion recorded Halbert Aye; Marquez No; Tam Abstain; Carson Yes; Miley Yes, and the motion passed.
Board members emphasized that the action directed staff to negotiate and return with a purchase agreement and that any final purchase would require subsequent board approval and public disclosure of terms.
