Summary
The Clive City Council voted 5-0 to adopt the city’s FY2026-27 budget, maintaining the levy at $9.92. Staff said the budget was published in the Des Moines Register and recommended approval after public hearings and CIP review.
The Clive City Council on April 9 adopted the city’s FY2026-27 budget by a 5-0 vote after a brief public hearing with no public comment. Staff recommended keeping the property-tax levy at $9.92, the same level approved two years after a prior reduction from $10.14.
Liz (city staff) told the council that the budget had been placed in final form and published as required; she said, “We have put it in the final form. It’s been published, which was required by law, and we have not received any comments, at this time. So if unless you have any other questions, the staff recommends approval.” The clerk confirmed required notice ran in the Des Moines Register on March 20, 2026.
Council members moved to close the public hearing and then moved to adopt the resolution approving the budget. The council voted to close the hearing and then adopted the resolution by a recorded voice vote reported as 5-0.
Why it matters: The adopted budget sets the city’s spending priorities and maintains the current levy level amid statewide discussions about property-tax reform that staff said are creating uncertainty for local governments. Staff also noted the budget process included public meetings, CIP planning and outreach.
What’s next: With the resolution adopted, staff will proceed with implementation under the FY2026-27 budget schedule and bring any required budget documents back to the clerk for record.
