Piedmont City Council approves $611,023.40 in bills, several repairs and pursues grant-funded fire truck

The Piedmont City Council on Jan. 6 approved payment of bills totaling $611,023.40, authorized several routine repairs and purchases and voted to have the Fire Chief pursue placement on a grant list for a new $429,000 fire truck.
Council Member Carlos Farmer moved to approve the minutes of Dec. 16, 2025; Greg South seconded and the motion carried. The council then considered payment of bills totaling $611,023.40. Council Member Mark Epps moved to approve payment of the bills as presented; Frank Cobb seconded. Council Member Carlos Farmer abstained and the council approved payment as presented (the transcript records the abstention but does not list a roll-call tally for other members).
The council approved a motion from Council Member Carlos Farmer to authorize repair of a skid steer for Corey Horton at Thompson Cat at a cost of $12,383.00; Greg South seconded the motion and it passed.
Council Member Greg South moved to replace damaged flooring at City Hall at a cost of $7,876.00 with Smith Flooring to perform the work; Frank Cobb seconded and the motion passed.
On a motion by Council Member Frank Cobb, seconded by Kevin McCord, the council approved allowing the Fire Chief to pursue placement on a list for a new fire truck to be paid with grant funds at an estimated cost of $429,000. The motion passed.
During visitor comments, Ashlee Jones reminded the council and public of a meeting scheduled for Jan. 8 at 5:30 p.m. at the Sinclair Social. Visitor Harry Nuttall asked the council to make a $200 donation to thank first responders; the minutes record the request but do not show a council decision on the donation.
Mayor Farmer thanked those in attendance and announced Tashia Blackerby as the new City Clerk. The meeting was adjourned at 6:15 p.m. following a motion by Council Member Carlos Farmer, seconded by Mark Epps.
Council Member Matt Rogers was noted as absent for the meeting.
