Piedmont council approves minutes, bills and conference delegates; mayor outlines infrastructure requests

The Piedmont City Council met Feb. 17 and unanimously approved routine business including the minutes from its Feb. 3 meeting and bills for Feb. 3–13, 2026. Councilman Carlos Farmer moved to approve the minutes; Councilman Matt Rogers seconded. Councilman Mark Epps moved to approve the listed bills; Councilman Frank Cobb seconded. In both cases, the council recorded unanimous approval.
The council also designated attendees for the upcoming municipal league conference. Councilman Matt Rogers moved to name Mayor Farmer as Piedmont's voting delegate and Councilman Carlos Farmer as the alternate; Councilman Greg South seconded the motion, which carried unanimously.
During the mayor's report, Mayor Farmer said he had met with Jonathan Gaddy (commission) to request assistance with ditch cleanup, road paving and support for school resource officers. The mayor reported meeting Judge Bud Turner and said Congressman Rogers is scheduled to visit Piedmont tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. Mayor Farmer also noted the municipal league conference dates of April 28–May 1, 2026.
Chief Kirkland provided the fire department's January report to the council; the minutes record that the report was given but do not include its contents. The mayor said the Park & Recreation Director position will be posted for 10–15 days, and that the city's grass-cutting contract for the trail and the cemetery is due for renewal with an added option to include park mowing.
With no further business, Councilman Keving McCord moved to adjourn; Council Member Brittney Williams seconded and the meeting adjourned after a unanimous vote.
The council recorded no formal controversies or contested votes at the Feb. 17 meeting. Future actions the council noted include posting the Park & Recreation Director opening, pursuing the park equipment grant submission, and continuing coordination with county and state partners on road and ditch work.
