During member remarks, the chair (S2) highlighted two Waterloo charitable traditions tied to Thanksgiving: a 5K that gathered more than 200 participants and raised an estimated $25,000 for a local 9-year-old family in need, and the VFW/Lions annual meal distribution that prepared roughly 400 meals with more than 50 volunteers. "There's over 200 people in the front yard this year celebrating raising money for a family in need... it was approximately $25,000 raised," S2 said.
The chair also announced that on Feb. 18, 2026, the city's large supply treatment transmission facilities will receive a special achievement award at an engineering excellence ceremony in Chicago presented by the American Council of Engineering Companies; city attendance and travel arrangements will be discussed by staff.
Next steps: staff will process the fee waiver, and council staff will follow up on details for travel to the awards ceremony.
