The Calhoun County Board of Commissioners voted on Aug. 6 to support the Region 3B Area Agency on Aging’s FY2010–2012 Multi-Year Plan (Res.132-2009). The motion, made by Commissioner Haadsma and supported by Commissioner Rocho, passed by voice vote.
The board’s resolution records that the Region 3B Area Agency on Aging is a not-for-profit serving Calhoun and Barry counties and that the agency’s mission is to promote health, independence and choice for older adults. The stated goals in the resolution include improving health and nutrition, increasing access to services that allow older adults to choose where they live, protecting older adults from abuse and exploitation, and improving service effectiveness and quality.
Commissioner Rocho asked the board to receive an annual report that would identify potential budget reductions and explain service delivery to seniors in the middle of the county. County Administrator/Controller Kelli Scott provided additional county updates during the meeting: office space on the third floor is now available for Congressman Schauer to meet with constituents; staff are discussing land bank activity and the county’s Neighborhood Stabilization Program application with the Treasurer; the consolidated dispatch center construction is progressing; the county is pursuing ARRA funding for facility energy conservation; and meetings are being arranged regarding zoning and intergovernmental cooperation along the casino corridor.
The board’s action was a support resolution rather than an appropriation; the motion directed no new county funding in the minutes. The board asked staff to report back on the requested annual report and to continue coordinating county activities related to housing and revitilization efforts referenced in the Administrator’s update.
