Cedar Park honors Mayor Pro Tem Eric Boyce; assistant utilities director Kenneth Wheeler celebrated for 30 years

The Cedar Park City Council opened Tuesday evening by honoring Mayor Pro Tem Eric Boyce and presenting a 30‑year service recognition to Kenneth Wheeler, the city’s assistant director of utilities.

Eric Boyce, Council Place 4 and mayor pro tem, reflected on three terms on the council and thanked colleagues and staff for their support. City staff introduced Boyce before colleagues offered personal tributes, noting his involvement in planning, economic development and the Bell District project.

The council then turned to Kenneth Wheeler, recognized by staff as assistant director of utilities for 30 years of service. Staff noted Wheeler’s role in long‑running regional projects including the Brushy Creek Regional Utility Authority (BCRUA) and cited system expansions and infrastructure investments. A staff speaker said that during Wheeler’s tenure Cedar Park’s water production capacity grew from 12 million to 37.2 million gallons a day and that he has been involved in roughly $719,000,000 of water and wastewater projects.

Wheeler spoke to the council and thanked city staff, past supervisors and family for their support. He emphasized teamwork in operating the utility and said he looks forward to continuing to serve the community.

Why it matters: Council remarks framed both recognitions as examples of long‑term institutional knowledge and stewardship of city services. Councilmembers said Wheeler’s work on regional partnerships and the deepwater intake project helps ensure long‑term water security for Cedar Park.
